Summer 2009 E-mail

There's LOTS to see and do, and many alumni to meet.  Let's see how many are located around the square.

Starting on the South side of the square is Ben Franklin's-owners Dave and Judy (Mease) Trask, WHS '64, Village Bootery-owner Terri (Griffith) Kuhns, WHS '76,  Madison County Merchantile-owner Shirley (Hart) Roach, WHS '63.  On the West side of the square you'll remember Montross Pharmacy-owner Pat (Fowler) Montross, WHS '37.  The North West corner still houses the Farmers and Merchants Bank-President Jim Mease, WHS '69.  Turning the corner on the North side of the square is Darling Law Office-Gordon Darling, JR. WHS '70, next door is Ritter Insurance-owner Leon Hendricks, WHS '69, Hood's Antiques-owner Gary Hood, WHS '60, Northside Barber shop-owner Nolan Collins, WHS '63, Madison County Reality, Pat Corkrean, WHS '59 and his family all work here.  On the North East corner is McGowner, Clark & Smith-owner Jim Smith, WHS '70.  As we finish our time around the square, don't forget to stop in the Courthouse, our County Clerk-Lisa Bolton Smith-WHS '76, and County Attorney Julie Bardwell  Forsyth, WHS '76, along with numerous other alumni scattered throughout the building will be glad to assist you.  Off the square you'll find numerous businesses operated by many WHS alumni.

If you arrive in Winterset early...say on a Thursday evening, stop at the Courthouse and listen to the Winterset Community Band.  They are musicians (most WHS Alumni!) who perform for "Lawn Chair Night" every Thursday  evening throughout the summer.  The Community Band performs in June until July.   Bring your lawn chair and sit back and enjoy a delightful evening!

Remember 4-H, FFA, and the County Fair?  July is the month for you!  Stop out and see what's new and improved at the Fair! Especially the NEW Community Building!
